360VR Dubai Airports
Giga Works was commissioned by Advanced Imaging System (AIS), to create at 360VR of what it looks when you land in Dubai. Dubai International Airport is the primary airport serving Dubai, United Arab Emirates and is the world’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic. It is also the 3rd busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic, the 6th busiest cargo airport in world and the busiest hub for the Airbus A380. In 2014, DXB handled 70.5 million passengers, 2.37 million tonnes of cargo and registered 357,339 aircraft movements.
The basic idea behind the Virtual Reality Video Experience was to show travellers that they have another option than heading straight to the immigration counters which was the smart gates. Currently the video shows the use of the e-gate which is limited to residents only for the time being. Later on, another experience will be produced showing how more than 40 nationalities could also use their passport to enter the UAE using the smart gates.
The first use of the experience was during GITEX 2015 (Gulf Information Technology Exhibition”) an annual consumer computer and electronics trade show, exhibition, and conference that takes place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Virtual Reality experience has grabbed the attention of top officials and experts as well consumers and visitors. We’ve also produced VR head mounted display for the event, the GigaBox™, Google Cardboard compatible. The experience can also be download via the App Store or PlayStore. The app name is: GDRFA VR
A first-of-its-kind electricity-powered car to serve transit passengers at Dubai International Airport, a new application for the Apple Watch, and a Next Generation Emigration system are among the new technologies the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) will unveil at this year’s Gitex.
An official said GDRFA’s participation in the 35th edition of the technology exhibition was the directorate’s “biggest ever” in terms of the line-up of technologies it will showcase. Gitex, which is being held at the World Trade Centre, will run from October 18 to Oct 22.
Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director-General of GDRFA-Dubai, said: “We’re showcasing our portfolio of new smart services to highlight our technological leadership in efficient and seamless travel facilitation.”
